 সাবেক পানিসম্পদমন্ত্রী ও ঠাকুরগাঁও-১ (সদর উপজেলা) আসনের সাবেক এমপি রমেশ চন্দ্র সেন দিনাজপুর জেলা কারাগারে অসুস্থ হয়ে মারা গেছেন।

শনিবার (৭ ফেব্রুয়ারি) সকাল ৯টা ২৯ মিনিটে দিনাজপুর মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসাপাতালের জরুরি বিভাগে নিলে চিকিৎসক তাকে মৃত ঘোষণা করেন।

এর আগে তিনি সকালে অসুস্থ্য হয়ে পড়লে কারাগার থেকে দিনাজপুর মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসাপাতালে নেওয়া হয়।

দিনাজপুর জেলা কারাগার সূত্রে জানা গেছে, গত ১৬ আগস্ট ঠাকুরগাঁও থানা পুলিশ তাকে আটক করে আদালতের মাধ্যমে ঠাকুরগাঁও জেলা কারাগারে পাঠায়।

সেখান থেকে ১৭ আগস্ট তাকে দিনাজপুর জেলা কারাগারে পাঠানো হয়। তিনি হত্যাসহ ৩টি মামলায় কারাগারে ছিলেন। আজ শনিবার সকালে অসুস্থ্য হয়ে পড়লে তাকে দ্রুত দিনাজপুর মেডিক্যাল কলেজ হাসাপাতাল নেওয়া হলে চিকিৎসক তাকে মৃত ঘোষণা করেন।

দিনাজপুর জেলা কারাগারের জেলার মো. ফরহাদ সরকার বিষয়টি নিশ্চিত করে জানান, আইনি প্রক্রিয়া সম্পন্ন করে লাশ পরিবারের কাছে হস্তান্তর করা হবে।

রমেশ চন্দ্র সেন ১৯৪০ সালের ৩০ এপ্রিল ঠাকুরগাঁওয়ের সদর উপজেলার রুহিয়া ইউনিয়নের কশালগাঁও গ্রামে জন্মগ্রহণ করেন। তার বাবার নাম ক্ষিতীন্দ্র মোহন সেন এবং মাতার নাম বালাশ্বরী সেন। তিনি রংপুর কারমাইকেল কলেজে পড়ালেখা করেন। পাঁচবারের এমপি ছিলেন তিনি।

সর্বশেষ ২০২৪ সালে আওয়ামী লীগ থেকে মনোনয়ন নিয়ে সংসদ সদস্য নির্বাচিত হন। এছাড়া তিনি আওয়ামী লীগের প্রেসিডিয়াম সদস্য ছিলেন।
